This week, Aragorn set out to examine how AI is revolutionising medicine and is set to save millions of lives over the next decade. Patrick had a date with Hume, who could read his emotions. Kind off. We got some super simple hacks for using ChatGPT or other LLMs. Patrick paid Lipservice to an AI with Hot Lips and introduced me to DJ Reinier Zonneveld’s Techno and his AI project.

A.I. Heaven for Everyone

There are many labels to describe me and Patrick, and people like us.
People who believe that, ultimately, technology is the answer to almost everything. But let me ask you? Was life better 50 years ago? a 100? 200? a 1000 years ago?

Technology is the single most important reason life has gotten longer and better for the majority of humans on Earth CoC (Century-over-Century) for the past 200.000 years.

It seems to me that statistically, betting on technology is a safe bet. AI recently allowed us to discover billions of new antibiotics, just when we needed them most. But it doesn’t stop there…

Hume

Meet Hume.AI: an empathetic chatbot designed to understand how you feel based on what you say and how you say it. While sentiment analysis is already a feature of some chatbots we interact with, this chatbot goes a step further by interpreting how you express something. This marks a significant advancement towards more human-like interactions with AI, with a wide range of applications.

Just imagine the ways an AI that can understand both textual content, as well as emotional undertone, could be of value. Two obvious use cases include:

In healthcare, Hume.AI could serve as an initial assessment tool, detecting subtle changes in a patient's emotional state that indicate a change in their physical or mental health. This can provide doctors with valuable insights even before traditional symptoms manifest.

In customer service settings, Hume.AI can help navigate customer conversations by recognising the customer's emotional tone. This allows representatives to adjust their approach accordingly, such as adopting a more reassuring tone with frustrated customers, which can lead to a more positive customer experience.

Who has the hottest lips?

Lip sync technology is currently one of the hot topics in the world of AI. Last year, RunwayML impressed with their prompt-to-video magic, quickly establishing themselves as an innovative player.

However, Sora has since taken over their text-to-video spotlight, thanks in part to new releases created by artists that deliver stunning results.

Now, Runway is fighting back with a new lip sync feature that is accessible to everyone.

But the tech world is always in motion. As we're getting used to one innovation, the next one is already on the horizon. Google's Vlogger looks very promising: this tool enables the creation of photorealistic animations from just a single still image, including accurate lip sync.

Why is lip sync so crucial? It allows us to refine dubbed content with life-like facial expressions and gestures, contributing to a more authentic and convincing viewing experience. Lip sync also makes content more accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing by pairing accurate mouth movements with subtitles. And… with lip sync technology, you can effortlessly produce multilingual versions of your content!

Back 2 Back DJ set with AI

Who’s into techno? Yeah, we know you are all in technology, but we’re talking about techno music. One of the popular names and pioneers in the dance scene in the Netherlands in recent years is Dutchman Reinier Zonneveld.

In 2023, the techno producer, with his characteristic Versace outfit, set the new Guinness World Record for the longest solo electronic music live set. He played continuously for 11 hours and 11 minutes to break the record!

This year, he is about to push the limits further. He will do a back-to-back set with his own AI system loaded with his own songs at his own R2 festival. While Suno takes the world by storm, this marks the beginning of yet another new frontier. Reinier’s AI set is programmed for the 17th of Augustus in Spaarnwoude (close to Amsterdam).

Two Tips for AI Chat Agents

Usually, we try to avoid posts about AI Productivity hacks. There are plenty of AI Experts on LinkedIn and X for those. But today, we’ve got two tips that are so easy and powerful that we decided to include them.

HACK 1.

Last week, Ethan Mollick and our very own Jeroen Peerbolte posted this hack (see top image) to improve the results of your prompts.

Simply put: Always finish with the question!

HACK 2.

Add “No Yapping” to the end of your prompts to get more precise, more to-the-point answers. Some testing revealed that you can replace “No yapping” with any request to reduce the amount of ‘fluff’.

“Just get to the point” or “Please keep it concise” also work.

April Reading Tip: The Coming Wave

Microsoft has a new AI CEO, Mustafa Suleyman, who will lead all consumer AI products and research, including Copilot, Bing, and Edge. That is a biggie. Suleyman is a co-founder of Deep Mind (the company behind AlphaGo and acquired by Google in 2014) and Inflection AI (the company behind Pi). He is also the writer of one of the best books of 2024, “The Coming Wave,” where he lays out how AI will shape our future.

He meticulously lays out why AI is hard to contain. He also describes what coming waves will look like asymmetric, hyper-fast, omni-use, and autonomous. And he beautifully articulates how technology amplifies human capability like never before. It's a highly recommended read for anyone curious about the next frontier in tech and its societal implications. Even more interesting to dive into the brain of a man who just accepted one of the most important positions in the world.
